New York, NY (June 1, 2012) – American Greetings Properties, the intellectual property and outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corporation (NYSE: AM), announced today that the ToonSeum: Pittsburgh Museum of Comic Art will host a retrospective exhibit celebrating the 30th anniversary of the beloved and iconic Care Bears. The “Care Bears: 30 Years of Caring…and Hugs” exhibit will run from June 29th through August 26th.

The ToonSeum’s “Care Bears: 30 Years of Caring…and Hugs” exhibit comes on the heels of the brand-new Care Bears television series debuting on June 2 on The Hub TV Network. The CG animated series, called “Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot,” will feature everyone’s favorite bears in exciting new adventures in the land of Care-a-Lot. The series will also introduce a new, younger addition to the group: the playfully curious Wonderheart Bear.

The “Care Bears: 30 Years of Caring…and Hugs” exhibit will focus on the heritage of the Care Bears brand and present a retrospective of the artwork from the original greeting card art and animation art to the new CGI version of “Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot”

"The Care Bears messages of caring and sharing are as relevant today as they were when the property was first introduced. The exhibit at ToonSeum will show how the property has evolved over the past 30 years and can be enjoyed by fans of all ages,” said Gabrielle Oliff, vice president of brand and marketing for American Greetings Properties.

“Care Bears are among the most enduring and endearing characters of the past half century.” Said ToonSeum Executive Director Joe Wos. “We are honored to celebrate their 30 year anniversary, and the characters are shared now with a whole new generation.”

ToonSeum: Pittsburgh Museum of Cartoon Art is one of only three museums dedicated to cartoon art in the United States. The mission of the ToonSeum is to celebrate the art of cartooning. It is located in downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.

In addition to the exhibit, the museum will also host a “Care Bears Birthday Bash” event in late summer. This will be a fun-filled event, where visitors will celebrate the return of Care Bears, enjoy themed activities, prizes, entertainment and gift bags. Proceeds from the event will go to the ToonSeum fundraising department, in honor of the Care Bears giving hearts.

Upon their debut in 1982, Care Bears quickly became a global sensation --causing near riots as moms and dads vied to get their hands on the new characters. The Care Bears represent different emotions through endearing symbols on their tummies, called belly badges, and include Tenderheart Bear, Cheer Bear, Share Bear, Grumpy Bear, Harmony Bear and Funshine Bear. Over the past decade, the Care Bears have continued to connect with kids, tweens and parents with licensed products generating more than $2.8 billion in global sales since 2002.
