      Childbirth Education: The Short Series

This four class series will help you feel informed, prepared and ready for the birth of your baby.  In a relaxed atmosphere, you’ll learn about how labor begins, the process of labor, when to go to the hospital, pain medications, common medical interventions and cesarean birth.   We will cover basic labor coping skills such as breathing, relaxation and positioning.  One class includes a pediatrician visit to talk about newborns.  Classes are small and personal, so there’s plenty of time for questions, discussion, and individual instruction time.  Plan to finish this class 2-4 weeks prior to your due date.

Classes are held weekly from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM for four weeks. Cost for all four classes is $100 per couple.

Dates for this series are:  September 4, September 11, September 18, and September 25.

      About the Instructor

Kathy McGrath is a childbirth educator (Lamaze), birth doula, doula trainer (DONA) and birth counselor (MSW, LSW).  She is the founder of Birth Partners, Inc., a comprehensive and independent birth education and support service.   After 20 years, she and her classes are more popular than ever. They come highly recommended by doctors, midwives, and, most importantly, former class members.  She is delighted to be part of the Kids Plus team.

Kathy is a Fellow in the American College of Childbirth Educators. She's served on the Faculty and Board of Directors of Lamaze International and won the prestigious Elizabeth Bing Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Childbirth Education in 2006.   She was one of the first ten DONA-Certified doulas in the country. She is a consultant to The Birth Circle, an agency which provides birth education, labor and postpartum support to underserved and at-risk mothers in Pittsburgh.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of PATTCh (Prevention and Treatment of Trauma in Childbirth).  She is a frequent speaker, both locally and nationally, on issues related to psychological aspects of childbearing.

She is happily married to Garry, a wonderful man who is her partner in every sense of the word, and the proud mother of 3 children.
