      The Insider Threat - Concerns and Controls

      You and your colleagues are invited to the InfraGard Pittsburgh "Insider Threat Seminar." Those who have inside access and information about your organization's security practices, data and computer systems can be a threat - an insider threat. The threat may involve fraud, the theft of confidential or commercially valuable information, the theft of intellectual property, or the sabotage of computer systems.  This seminar will discuss the scope of the threat, its affect on on organizations in both the physical and cyber worlds, mitigation strategies and specific controls to utilize. This event is open to the general public.

      Date: Friday, October 18 - 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, doors open at 8:30 am
      Location: Jordan Auditorium, SEI, Pittsburgh. There is a cafe in the SEI Building, however food and drinks are not allowed in Jordan Auditorium.
      Parking: There are parking meters on many of the streets in Oakland. The SEI parking garage is available on Dithridge Street. There is also a parking garage under the building on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Craig Street.

      Topic 1:   The Insider: Challenges and Threats
      Data Loss Prevention And Protection

      Presented by Jim Henderson, Chairman Of FBI Maryland InfraGard Cyber Security-Insider Threat Special Interest Group.  The presentation will cover the many simple and more advanced ways an Insider can exfiltrate data from your organization and the steps an organization can take tomitigate data loss of classified information, sensitive information and intellectual property. The presenation will also discuss various other Insider Threat mitigation strategies to protect your organization from the Insider Threat.

      Topic 2:  Mitigation Strategies & Controls
      Randy Trzeciak, Senior Member Of The Technical Staff For The Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute’s CERT Insider Threat Program

      Topic 3:  The Role of Physical Security and the Insider Threat
      Special Agent Philip Smith, FBI Pittsburgh, will discuss from a physical security perspective concerns and outcomes of the insider threat. This will include signs and warnings organizations can employ to discover an actor.
